Fashion Design & Merchandising students walked through the Garment Center, visited fashion manufacturers, and toured an exhibit at The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology during a class trip to Manhattan in early April.

Students from the morning and afternoon classes began their educational journey on Fashion Avenue to see the Garment Worker statue and Button & Needle sculpture. They then visited Pacific Trimming and Mood Fabrics, two large-scale suppliers that house a wide variety of fabrics and trimmings.

The trip ended with a stop at The Museum at FIT for an exhibit called “Cabinet of Curiosities.”

“Our students saw many examples of how fashion designers have used natural history and other collectible artifacts and specimens as inspiration for their work,” Fashion Design & Merchandising teacher Carmen Galiano said of the exhibit.

Gailano said students will use this experience as an inspiration for this year’s Fashion Expo in May.

The Museum at FIT gave students inspiration.
