The Center for Career Services held its annual Recognition Ceremony June 11, 2026 at the Westchester County Center.

Students enrolled in Career and Technical Education programs through Southern Westchester BOCES’ Career Services were honored for their achievements at the annual Recognition Ceremony, held on June 11, 2026, at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.

 

The Center for Career Services held its annual Recognition Ceremony June 11, 2026 at the Westchester County Center.The event brought together students, families, and educators from Southern Westchester BOCES’ component districts for an evening of celebration and pride.

 

The ceremony opened with a formal procession of students and staff, led into the arena by U.S. Marine Corps recruit Andy Ordonez, who carried the American flag with distinction. Ordonez then led attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance. Cosmetology student Miranda Beato followed with a powerful rendition of the National Anthem, setting a respectful and celebratory tone for the evening.

 

Director of Career Services Dahlia Jackson welcomed the audience, while District  uperintendent Dr. Harold A. Coles delivered opening remarks, recognizing the Class of 2026 as a group of emerging professionals prepared to enter a wide range of industries.

 

“As you leave here, be the workforce and the citizens that we need to build a just society,” Dr. Coles said. “Congratulations to you, Southern Westchester BOCES CTE Class of 2026.”

 

Salutatorian Alexandria Mendoza, a student in the Security, Law & Policing program, addressed the audience with gratitude and reflection. She invited families and teachers to stand and be recognized, acknowledging their role in supporting student success.

 

“You’ve all played an important role in our achievements,” she said. “It is now our time to take this encouragement, along with the tools we have gained over the last two years at Career Services, and start building our future.”

 

A highlight of the evening was a student-produced video featuring reflections on the Career Services experience. The segment was introduced by Video Production students Tyler Luisi and Jake Olivier, whose work has earned honors at regional and statewide SkillsUSA competitions, as well as recognition at Southern Westchester BOCES’ FirstDance Film Festival and the Eastchester High School Film Festival.

Valedictorian Rebecca Durinda, also a Security, Law & Policing student, spoke about growth through change and the importance of embracing new challenges.

 

“Change is an important part of our lives,” she said. “Everyone goes through it. While it may be scary to step into the unknown, it is admirable to take that next step anyway.”

 

The ceremony also included heartfelt tributes to retiring staff members. Principal Jaclyn De Lao and Assistant Principal Phil Donohue recognized Eileen Yip, the school’s social worker for the past 18 years, for her lasting impact on students and the school community. Ms. Yip was presented with flowers by Ms. Jackson. Dr. Brendan Lyons, Deputy District Superintendent and Chief Operating Officer, honored James Gratto for his decade of service as Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services.

 

The presentation of certificates followed, as students were called to the stage by their instructors and celebrated alongside their peers. Each program gathered for group photos, capturing the moment at the foot of the stage.

 

The evening concluded with closing remarks from Ms. Jackson, who addressed the graduates directly.
