Audio Production students visited the University of New Haven.

Audio Production students at the Center for Career Services recently had opportunities to bring their classroom skills into professional environments through a pair of immersive, hands-on field trips.

Audio Production students visited the program at the University of New Haven. The class recently toured the sound programs at the University of New Haven and Mercy University. Each visit offered a unique glimpse into college-level production work and the range of career paths available in the audio industry. The program has another trip lined up for this spring, with plans to return to Alchemy Post Sound in Peekskill.

“These trips give them an in-depth look at the field,” Audio Production teacher Sean Harty Rivera said. “They are able to gain real, hands-on experience in a professional environment.”

At the University of New Haven, students toured the facilities and learned about the school’s Music & Sound Recording program. They earned a close-up look at both the technical and creative sides of the industry. The schools are currently in discussions about the launch of an articulation agreement, which would enable Audio Production students to earn college credits toward future study.

At Mercy University, students stepped into the school’s professional recording studios, guided by Mercy professors who shared insight into their programs and career opportunities in sound design, mixing, and post-production. The partnership between the schools strengthened last year when they reached an articulation agreement that allows Career Services students who enroll at Mercy to enter college with credits toward their degree.

Back on campus, Audio Production students will put what they’ve learned into practice by providing live audio support for upcoming events. Each project builds on their growing expertise and confidence as sound professionals.
