Work-Based Learning Newsletter (October 2025)

WHAT IS WORK-BASED LEARNING?

Work-Based Learning combines classroom education with real-world work experiences. It provides students with opportunities to develop both academic and technical skills through meaningful activities such as workplace tours, industry guest speakers, internships, apprenticeships, and job shadowing. These experiences align with the state’s Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) standards, helping prepare students for a successful transition into the workforce.

WHY IS WORK-BASED LEARNING IMPORTANT?

Work-Based Learning provides students with direct exposure to various industries and career options. These experiences help students build professional connections, develop workplace skills, and understand employer expectations. By applying what they’ve learned in the classroom to authentic job settings, students enhance their confidence and readiness for future employment opportunities.

UPCOMING STUDENT TOURS

  • On October 9th, Automotive Technology students will tour the FordPro Commercial Service Center, where they will explore advanced automotive technologies and gain exposure to current industry practices. These upcoming tours are designed to connect classroom learning with real world experiences and inspire student career goals.
  • On October 27th, our Nursing Assistant Juniors and CISMAA students will tour Blythedale Children’s Hospital. This visit will provide students with valuable insight into pediatric healthcare environments and help deepen their understanding of potential career paths.

RECENT HIGHLIGHTS

Senior CNA Clinical Rotations Begin This Fall
Building on last year’s tour, our Senior CNA students are excited to start their clinical rotations with three local business partners, including Blythedale Children’s Hospital. Having previously toured the hospital as Juniors, students now look forward to gaining hands-on experience and applying their skills in a real-world healthcare environment.

Guest Speaker
EMS students recently completed a career exploration project, with many expressing interest in becoming NICU nurses. To support this, Mr. Del Greco arranged for a NICU nurse from Westchester Medical Center to speak with his students about her career journey, emphasizing the work ethic and empathy essential for this demanding role.
